How Do I Apply?

When you’re ready to apply for the Training 4 TEFL Trinity CertTESOL course, let us know and we’ll invite you in for an interview. You can call us, email us, or get us to call you back. The interview is an opportunity for you to find out more about the course, check out our premises and meet one of the trainers (who will interview you). It’s also a chance for us to assess your aptitude for a career as an English teacher and advise you accordingly. We’ll ask you to take a 30-minute written test with questions on things like vocabulary, grammar and punctuation. We’ll also ask you to imagine you’re an English teacher and respond to a number of different student questions. You’re not expected to know all the answers; we’ll be looking for creativity, imagination, motivation and a willingness to learn. The interview takes about 20 minutes, so allow for 1 hour in total at the school. After the interview, we’ll let you know whether we think you’re suitable for the course, and, if so, you’ll be able to enrol.

Once you’ve enrolled, we’ll provide you with access to our online classroom and our pre-course preparation pack, which will enable you to prepare for the training course, through reading one of the best books on how to teach English, watching videos of good teachers in the classroom and learning a little about pronunciation theory. It’ll also include details of the course itself. By the time you start your course, you’ll already have learnt a lot about teaching English and the course you’ll be taking.

If you’re not able to attend an interview in person, for example if you live overseas, we can also arrange for you to take the written test online and to do the interview by Skype or telephone. Just email or call us to find out more.

If you’re not a native speaker of English, you’ll need to have one of the following qualifications to demonstrate an advanced level of competence in English:

  • Cambridge ESOL Advanced or Proficiency Certificate
  • IELTS band 7.0 or above on all 4 parts of the test
  • TOEFL score 600 (250 on the computer-based test and 110 on the iBT - internet-based test)
  • Trinity graded examination in spoken English, grade 10
  • TOEIC score 945
  • Skills for Life Level 2
  • Pearson Test 76

If you don't have one of these, we will need to provide you with an extra task at interview stage that will enable us to assess whether you have the required level of English. This will take an additional 30 minutes.
